BDC Best Ideas: New Features

If one's going to choose the best BDCs to invest in, the underlying data on which decisions are made has to be accurate and up to date. We believe the ERT - and our new annotated News feed - are an invaluable resource, both for us and our readers.

Kept Busy

We are tracking 42 public BDCs. As you can imagine there's an almost constant flow of news stories emanating from - and about them - every day. This becomes a fire hose during earnings season 4 times a year. Our goal is to read everything. Admittedly, we're often hard pressed to keep up. (As an aside - we're optimistic that the appropriate application of AI research tools will help us in the future).

What Matters Most

Truth be told, the most relevant news for BDC Best Ideas - and its readers - is anything that materially impacts likely future performance, especially earnings, book value, and dividends. There are plenty of filings and press releases that can be safely ignored because no needle is moved. However, every time we do learn something new that might change the metrics in the Expected Return Table you'll find the story in our just launched BDC News feed - see the front page of the website on the right.

Analysis

Go there and you'll find the relevant news item and - more importantly - an evaluation by BDC Best Ideas of the likely impact on the BDC involved. Where necessary, we will change the projections in the ERT to reflect this new reality.

💡
After all, the central objective of the ERT is to constantly reflect what we - and the analysts - expect from BDC performance going forward.

In Black And White

As the song says, we've only just begun publishing this new feature but over time you'll be able to read about dozens of BDC developments and witness how we assess their impact on future earnings, Net Asset Value Per Share (NAVPS) and payouts. You may agree or disagree with our conclusions, but they'll be spelled out there for all to see.

Right There

For ease of use, every time there's a new item, we'll highlight the fact in the ERT - giving the date and the headline, with an appropriate link. Look for the green highlight for this week's entries. We've also added a column which details any changes we've made to the ERT as a result. However, for all the "color" on these stories, go to News on the website. Everything is presented in reverse chronological order.

If one's going to choose the best BDCs to invest in, the underlying data on which decisions are made has to be accurate and up to date. We believe the ERT - and our annotated News feed - are an invaluable resource, both for us and our readers. That leaves us only to select the Best Ideas that will generate market beating returns over time...
